GLENWOOD'S HISTORY
GLENWOOD'S HISTORY
Organized January 31, 1997
On December 15, 1996, the Austin Ave. Baptist church voted to start a new mission work in Deer Park, TX. On December 26th, 1996, the Glenwood Baptist Mission held its first service at 4526 Glenwood Ave. in Deer Park, TX. God continued to bless and prosper this new Mission, and on January 22, 1997, the Austin Ave. Baptist church voted to authorize the organization of this Mission into a New Testament Church. On January 31, 1997, this prospering "Mission" was organized into a self-supporting, self-governing Independent Baptist Church. On the same date, this new Church voted to call Bro. Rick Michalinos as their first Pastor.
Following the death of their founding Pastor on July 24, 2004, the Glenwood Baptist Church called Bro. David Hallmark to lead them in those difficult days.
After Bro. Hallmark's resignation, the Glenwood Baptist Church called Dr. Paul McWherter, from Murray, Kentucky to preach a 4-day Revival the last week of April, 2006. Following that meeting, Dr. McWherter was called back on Memorial Day weekend in May, 2006 as a candidate for Pastor. On that Sunday evening, the Church voted "unanimously" to extend the call to Dr. McWherter to be their Pastor. In that same service, Bro. McWherter accepted the call, and became the Pastor of Glenwood Baptist Church of Deer Park, TX. Bro. Paul and Star moved to Deer Park on July 4, 2006. In October of that same year, the Church purchased a 9-acre tract of land on the South side of the present property for future expansion. This tract of land stretches from Glenwood Ave. all the way to Red Bluff: a major thoroughfare that serves as a border between the cities of Deer Park and Pasadena. In June of 2008, the Church purchased a half acre lot directly behind the present property.
We rejoice in our "HISTORY". We also rejoice in our bright "FUTURE". Until Jesus comes to "catch us up", we will endeavor to serve Him in every capacity He calls us to. By FAITH we see God continuing to add to our faithful Church, and blessing us with a new facility on that 9-acre tract of land. We consider it a blessing, an honor, and a great joy to be involved in "WHAT GOD IS DOING" here in Deer Park, Texas!!!
